Swarthmore Men’s Tennis Players Call to Action

We, the undersigned members of the Swarthmore men’s tennis team, call on the College to immediately and permanently revoke the leases given to the fraternities on its campus. Given the recent evidence revealing a culture of homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and sexual violence amongst past and current members of the fraternity, we believe that a renewal of the fraternity leases would be unacceptable. As privileged members of the Swarthmore community, we cannot sit idly by, allowing this behavior to continue. We demand that the College take immediate action and begin the process of healing.

In order to create a safe and inclusive campus environment for all, it is imperative that the College act now. We must be active participants in creating a campus in which all members of the community are safe. In failing to terminate the fraternity leases, the college is complicit in perpetuating a cycle of violence and discrimination that is antithetical to Swarthmore’s values. We stand with Swarthmore Coalition to End Fraternity Violence and call on the College to terminate the fraternity leases on our campus indefinitely.
