SISA Statement in Support of SJP

On behalf of indigenous students at Swarthmore College, SISA (Swarthmore Indigenous Students Association) would like to state its strong support of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and their efforts towards Palestinian Liberation by calling to deshelve Sabra products from the Swarthmore College Campus.

We, too, call on Valerie Smith to recognize the illegal occupation of Palestinian land and the human rights violation committed the Israeli Defense Forces towards Palestinians, and in part is funded by the Strauss Group. The Strauss Group owns Sabra Hummus and also invests in – even sending out care packages – to the Golani Brigade of the Israeli armed forces.  The Golani brigade is mes brutal: since its inception, the Brigade has carried out countless human rights violations against Palestinians in Hebron, including arbitrary murders, assaults, incarcerations, evictions, and arrests of children. Furthermore, the Brigade’s existence as an occupying force violates international law: Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, the construction of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and its 1967 annexation of East Jerusalem are all illegal according to the United Nations.

Therefore, SISA fully supports the Sabra boycott within the broader Boycott Divestment Sanctions. We call upon our friends and families to no longer buy Sabra Hummus products and support SJP’s demand that Swarthmore College President Valerie Smith deshelve its products
