Swarthmore Queer Union Letter of Support for BDS Campaign

We, as board members of SQU, have come together to issue a statement of solidarity with the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) campaign launched by Students for Justice in Palestine. We demand that Swarthmore stops funding an apartheid state with our tuitions, just as the United States continues to fund Israeli Apartheid in our name and with our tax dollars.

In particular, we voice our fury at the ways that the State of Israel pinkwashes its apartheid practices. We reject those who wish to use our identities as the basis of legitimizing occupation and apartheid; indeed, we recognize that queer and trans liberation cannot take place without Palestinian liberation. We vow to put our time and resources into helping aid SJP in the BDS campaign. We pledge to support SJP by signing the petition linked below and commit to showing up for them in all of the various capacities that we are able to, and encourage others to do the same.

We encourage our membership and the broader Swarthmore community to stay informed on what is going on in Palestine and why the BDS campaign is so crucial. We commit ourselves as board members to dedicating our time, resources and support at our individual capacities to do so, and hope that others will join. More information about the Swarthmore BDS campaign can be found here and here. The link to sign the petition for the BDS campaign can be found here.

In Solidarity,
